Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Yasay posts P240,000-bail

(Eagle News)–Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. on Friday, Aug. 23, posted a P240,000 bail for the charges for violation of banking laws filed against him.

A GMA-7 report said Yasay posted the bail around 11 a.m. before Branch 10 of the Manila Regional Trial Court, where the complaint for violation of provisions of the General Banking Law and the New Central Bank Act was lodged against him and five other officials of the now-defunct Banco Filipino Savings and Mortgages Bank.

The charges stem from the alleged failure of Yasay’s group to report to the BSP a P350-million loan for Tierrasud Incorporated partly guaranteed and secured by real properties owned by Tropical Land Corporation.

The police said the group failed to report the loan “to the supervision of BSP” even if a report instructing them to rectify the same was addressed to them.

Yasay had to ask the  Manila Doctors Hospital, where he was rushed after complaining of “chest pain” following his arrest on Thursday afternoon, for permission to leave to post the bail.

The former foreign affairs secretary is slated to return to the hospital.
