“Falcon” intensifies slightly as it continues to move northward

(Eagle News)–Tropical Storm “Falcon” intensified slightly as it continued to move northward on Thursday morning.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said as of 10  a.m., the center of the tropical storm was estimated at 385 kilometers north northeast of Basco, Batanes.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour, and is moving at 20 kilometers per hour.

Signal No.1 has been lifted over the northern portion of the Babuyan Group of Islands but it is still hoisted over Batanes.

Today, moderate to at times heavy rains will be experienced over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, light to moderate to at times heavy rains will be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

“Residents in the aforementioned areas, especially those living in areas identified to be at risk of flooding and landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Thunderstorm Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings to be issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions,” the weather bureau said.

It said  sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Batanes, the seaboards of Luzon, and the western seaboard of Visayas.

Meanwhile, as of 10 a.m., the Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 250 km west northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

PAGASA said this may develop into a tropical depression within 48 hours.
