Facebook to remove alleged terrorists accounts

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Social media giant, Facebook, will remove accounts belonging to terrorists after the Armed Forces of the Philippines appealed for it to remove and investigate more than 60 accounts belonging to the Maute Group and its sympathizers.

Facebook said that accounts belonging to groups and persons involved in terrorist activities are against its community standards and that it is ready to remove posts, comments and even the accounts of those who violate its policies.

The Philippine military on Friday, June 9 asked Facebook Philippines to close all the accounts that have been utilized by the Maute terror group that they are using to spread lies and misinform the public.

“There are 63 Facebook accounts that have been utilized by the Maute local terrorist group and their sympathizers. These 63 accounts are spreading malicious operations that affect the information landscape and the mindset of every Filipino,” said Lieutenant Colonel Jo-Ar Herrera, the military spokesman in Marawi City.

“These Facebook accounts have twisted the truth and twisted the real situation,” Herrera added.
