“Fabian” slightly intensifies, nears severe tropical storm category

Monsoon rains expected over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan due to “Fabian,” LPA outside PAR

(Eagle News) — “Fabian” has slightly intensified and is nearing severe tropical storm category.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said, however, that “Fabian,” which is located 1,090 km east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon,  is unlikely to bring heavy rainfall in the country.

Instead, it, together with the tropical depression spotted 900 km west of extreme Northern Luzon outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon resulting in monsoon rains over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan in the next 24 hours.

The weather bureau said “Fabian”  was moving north northwestward at 10 kph, moderate to rough seas (1.5 to 2.8 m) may be experienced over the western seaboard of Palawan including Kalayaan Islands.

It is forecast to maintain a north northwestward or northwestward direction  before turning west northwestward on tomorrow.

The tropical cyclone may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow evening or on Wednesday early morning.

PAGASA said residents and disaster managers in Batanes and Babuyan Islands, however, should continuously monitor the tropical cyclone bulletins as any further southward shift in the orientation of the track forecast may result in the hoisting of Signal No. 1 over these areas.
