ex-‘King’ lawyer blasts De Lima, clears Paolo Duterte on billionaire’s slay

(Eagle News)– Kabayan Party-list representative and former lawyer of Richard King’s family Harry Roque on Friday (September 16) stressed that the Dutertes have nothing to do behind the billionaire’s murder in 2014.

The statement was announced following the claims of self-confessed member of the Davao Death Squad (DDS) Edgar Matobato that incumbent Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte was the mastermind of the hotelier’s death due to their rivalry over a woman.

Matobato also charged President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered murders and bombings in Davao City when was still a mayor.

According to Roque, there was no evidence that the first family was involved in King’s slay.

He added that the Kings were angry at Senator Leila De Lima due to use of Richard’s name for “her personal and political ends”.

Roque also remarked that the family was insulted that the patriarch’s death is being used “to smear the name of President Duterte.”

“Police Supt. Leonardo Felonia was charged for King’s murder. Not once was it the name of Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte ever mentioned in the course of the investigation. The story that seems to be the most popular is that a businesswoman paid P20 million to have Richard King killed. She contacted Felonia to look for killers,” Roque concluded.
