Ejercito: It “will be hard to say no” if President Duterte offers me a Cabinet post

(Eagle News)–For Outgoing Senator JV Ejercito, it would be “hard to say no” if President Rodrigo Duterte offers him a Cabinet post.

According to Ejercito, in the first place, “it’s an honor to be considered by the President” for such, adding that he was moved when Duterte said “Sayang ito si JV.”

“If called to serve the President, that means it’s an opportunity to serve the nation once again,” he added.

So far, Ejercito said he would focus on spending more time with his family and tend to the family businesses.

Under the Constitution, “no candidate who has lost in any election, shall within one year after election, be appointed to any office in the government or any government-owned or controlled corporation or in any of its subsidiaries.”

Ejercito failed to secure reelection in the May 13 polls, landing 13th place with 14,313,727 votes based on the final official tally of the Commission on Elections.

But in a speech before members of the Filipino community in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday, May 30, Duterte hinted at getting Ejercito to work again in government.

“Pero, well, anyway, you are still young. May Cabinet naman diyan kung magbakante,” Duterte had said.
