Eagle On The Go: River Bus Ferry Starts Trial Run along Pasig River

Manila, Philippines — The Metro Manila Development Authority revived today (March 5, 2014) the river bus ferry service along the Pasig River. Eagle News Reporter Jerold Tagbo rides the prototype of the river bus ferry as it began its dry run along the Pasig River.  The return of the river bus ferry came about as various construction projects affected traffic along EDSA, considered as Metro Manila’s main highway.   MMDA said this can serve as an alternative mode of transportation for those affected by the traffic in EDSA.

MMDA chair Francis Tolentino said the river bus ferry can accommodate up to 40 passengers.   The MMDA wants to operate up to five river bus ferries by next month (April).   The MMDA will operate the ferry service in the Pasig river in the meantime that there is still no bidding for private firms that would eventually operate the ferry service along Pasig River, according to MMDA chair Tolentino.  Presently, two private firms have already signified their interest to participate in the bidding.

The last time that the ferry bus service was in operation along the Pasig River was in year 2011. (Eagle News Service)
