Duterte visits wake of UP student leader who died after being implicated in hazing incident

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte visited on Monday, Sept. 30, the wake of the University of the Philippines student leader who died after being implicated in a hazing incident.

The Palace on Tuesday, Oct. 1, said the President visited the Quezon City wake of  the pupil, a member of the Sigma Rho fraternity, who was not identified by UP.

Reports said however that he was the son of a government official.

The death of the student came after UP announced a probe into him and several others over screenshots of their conversation that surfaced online and that supposedly showed they engaged in hazing.

Following his death, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, also a member of the Sigma Rho fraternity,  called on the public “to extend kindness, patience and understanding to all, regardless of the circumstances, especially as we are now in the age of interactive computer-mediated technology.”
