Duterte urges Congress to reimpose death penalty for heinous crimes

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, July 22, urged members of Congress to reimpose the death penalty.

In his fourth State of the Nation Address, Duterte said the death penalty should be reimposed for heinous crimes such as illegal drugs and plunder.

In calling for its reimposition, Duterte recalled the Marawi siege, where he said shabu “and millions of pesos, drug money killed 175 and wounded 2000” including soldiers.

“It pains me to say we have not learnt our lesson. Illegal drug problem, corruption continues,” he said.
