Duterte urges Chinese businessmen to invest in PHL

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday, Aug. 30, urged Chinese businessmen to invest in the Philippines.

The Palace said Duterte also noted the Philippines has “grown for the past 82 consecutive quarters and recorded above 6% annual growth rate since 2012” as he faced the businessmen on the second day of his trip to China at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Beijing.

He added the  Build, Build, Build program allows for more cooperation between the Philippines and China, with the Palace noting that the country has a Construction Industry Roadmap for 2022 until 2030 that will highlight this cooperation.

The roadmap, the Palace will enable Philippine construction delegates to go to China to benchmark on digital building technologies and ways to deliver quality construction efficiently and effectively.

The Palace said among the projects in the pipeline in the country was an integrated steel mill to be built based on an agreement between HBIS Group Asia and Steel Asia, and which it said would enhance the Philippines’ capacity to produce high-quality steel products by 2030.

The Palace  said this was in line with the country’s aspirations to build a globally competitive integrated iron and steel industry that is globally competitive.

Duterte said the construction for the first industrial park was also scheduled to start in the first half of 2020.

Businessmen could also invest in  agriculture, manufacturing  and services, apart from construction, Duterte said.

The President will end his official visit to China on Sept. 2.
