Duterte to make “major decisions” to address presence of some scalawags in police force

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte said he will have to come up with “major decisions” to address the issue of scalawags in the police force, starting perhaps with the “serious  problem” in the recruitment process.

“Maybe we’ll have to revise everything. I need time to sleep on it,” Duterte, who spoke in a press conference after the closing ceremonies of the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit and Related Meetings on Tuesday night, said.

Duterte made the pronouncement after he noted that there could be instances some unscrupulous individuals managed to graduate as police officers despite noncompliance with certain requirements.

He said there was also the issue of police recidivists that needed to be addressed.

“Kung patawarin mo lagi, lok* lok* talaga, the idiot would drag the entire (Philippine National Police) down. It’s not fair..,” Duterte said.

He expressed hope the doubling of the salary of the uniformed personnel starting next year would arrest the incidence of extortion of policemen.

“..Sana wala naman akong marinig na kinikilkilan mo (ang tao). Otherwise, forget you are my policeman,” he said.
