(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered government agencies to extend assistance to Mindanao, which was hit by a 6.3-magnitude earthquake.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the “immediate assistance” was for those in need, and “to study plans on how to rehabilitate the damaged areas.”

The Palace is “saddened by this unfortunate incident and, in the meantime, wishes to express its sympathies to those who were affected” by the earthquake that  killed at least five people and injured 17 others, Panelo said.

He said the government was “closely monitoring” the situation.

He also urged the public not to spread disinformation that may cause panic.
