(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law modifying the ranks of policemen.

A copy of the law has, however, yet to be released to the media.

Under the law, which amended Section 28 of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990, the following are the ranks of policemen:

  • From Director-General to Police General
  • From Deputy Director-General to Police Lieutenant General
  • From Director to Police Major General
  • From Chief Superintendent to Police Brigadier General
  • From Senior Superintendent to Police Colonel
  • From Superintendent to Police Lieutenant Colonel
  • From Chief Inspector to Police Major
  • From Senior Inspector to Police Captain
  • From Inspector to Police Lieutenant
  • From SPO4 to Police Executive Master Sergeant
  • From SPO3 to Police Chief Master Sergeant
  • From SPO2 to Police Senior Master Sergeant
  • From SPO1 to Police Master Sergeant
  • From PO3 to Police Staff Sergeant
  • From P02 to Police Corporal
  • From P01 to Patrolman/Patrolwoman

In authoring the bill in the Senate, Senator Panfilo Lacson, who served as  chief of the PNP from 1999 to 2001, said the new classification would remove any existing confusion about the ranks among members of the public.
