Duterte signs law declaring July 25 as National Campus Press Freedom Day

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law declaring July 25 as National Campus Press Freedom Day.

In signing Republic Act No. 11440, Duterte noted that it is the State’s policy to “promote, protect, and safeguard the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of expression, speech and of the press.”

“As part of the media, the campus press is an important institution in promoting and protecting the freedom of the press and the freedom of expression,” he said.

He urged all educational institutions to provide support to the activities to be done in celebration of the day.

The law shall take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
