Duterte says he still believes in Faeldon

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday, Sept. 6, said he still believes in Nicanor Faeldon.

The President said this two days after he sacked the former Marine as Bureau of Corrections director-general following the release of convicts under the Good Conduct Time Allowance Law and the near-release of former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez, who was convicted of the rape and killing of Eileen Sarmenta, and of the killing of her friend Allan Gomez.

In a speech in Cebu, the President recalled how Faeldon, then the chief of the Bureau of Customs, informed him about a businessman in Cebu who supposedly keeps cigarettes with fake tax stamps in three warehouses.

According to the President, the government earned P37 billion in taxes because of Faeldon’s report.

“Kana si Faeldon, tarong na nga tawo (Faeldon is a good man),” the President said.

Justice spokesperson Markk Perete said Justice Secretary Menardo  Guevarra has assigned Assistant Secretary and Deputy Director General Melvin Ramon G. Buenafe to the post left vacated by  Faeldon.
