Duterte: Presidency is “my last hurrah,” may not finish term because of age

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, December 14 said that he might not be around until the end of his term because of his old age.

“I am old … This is my last hurrah — after this, 77 — I am not sure if I will still be around by the end of my term,” the President said.

“I realize now – I do not need it at this time of my life. But I tell you, I take pleasure at the end of the day, that’s the only consolation, I have a job, I am doing something right,” Duterte said.

In a gathering with the business leaders on Monday, President Duterte announced that he suffered from pains, migraines and Buerger’s disease – a disorder affecting blood vessels.

“I have this migraine every day,” he said. “I have a lot of issues with my spine. What I have is really Buerger’s disease. It’s an acquired thing that you get from smoking, because of nicotine.”

However, Malacañang assured the public that President Rodrigo Duterte is in good physical condition, and is fit to attend to his duties.

In fact, last Monday, he had activities from morning until late at night, the latest of which is the dinner the members of The Wallace Business Forum with its founder and owner, Australian businessman-turned-Filipino citizen Mr. Peter Wallace, at the President’s Hall in Malacañang on December 12, 2016. The activity ended almost midnight.
