(Eagle News) — “E di maganda.”
President Rodrigo Duterte gave this reaction when asked to comment on ousted Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno’s statement she was open to running for a Senate seat in 2019.
“Palit siya from Chief Justice to senator. Maganda. Botohin ninyo..,” he said.
The President then, however, openly lashed out at Sereno, who she said “wasted the prestige of (being) Chief Justice.”
“With that kind of behavior, (Senator Leila) De Lima and Sereno…Not everybody can be appointed Chief Justice,” he said.
On Thursday, June 29, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said he personally talked to Sereno to try to convince her to be part of the opposition slate in the midterm elections.
He said he was so far giving Sereno, who said she was open to the idea, some “space.”
