Duterte on prospect of Robredo being President: “Hindi niya kaya”

President lauds leadership skills of Chiz Escudero, Bongbong Marcos instead

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, Aug. 14, appeared to belittle Vice President Leni Robredo’s leadership abilities, saying she cannot handle the country’s problems.

In the same speech, the President instead appeared to express support for the leadership skills of Chiz Escudero and Bongbong Marcos, who both ran against Robredo in the 2016 elections, but lost.

Marcos has filed an electoral protest against the now-vice president.

“Hindi niya kaya (She cannot do it), that’s my honest opinion ko lang,” Duterte said of the prospect of Robredo being President.

He clarified, however, that “wala akong galit kay Robredo.”

“Panalo na ako. Hindi ako nakikipag-away ng babae. Hindi nga ako sumasagot kung ano ang sinasabi nilla… But sinabi ko, I think deep in my heart, if you follow the succession and Robredo takes over, hindi. That’s my honest opinion ko lang,” he said.

“Kung na sino lang sana diyan, in the likes of Escudero or Bongbong Marcos (ang magsucceed, I can step down),” he added.
