Duterte on claims his war threat vs Canada over trash was a figure of speech: “Hindi man nila ako kilala”

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday, June 6, said he was serious when he threatened to declare war against Canada if the North American country did not recall its trash.

“Sabi ko sa kanila, isauli ko ‘yan, ‘pag hindi tayo nagkaintindihan I will declare war..  Akala naman siguro nitong – well sa media. Braggadocio. Hambog ba. Hindi man nila ako kilala,” Duterte said in Davao.

According to Duterte, “it’s a matter of respect.”

“Kung gawain mo lang akong basurahan dito, p**** in*,” he said.

The President issued the statement a week after Canada recalled over 1000 tons of garbage it shipped to the Philippines six years ago.

The recall took place after Duterte ordered government agencies to look for a private vessel that would ship the garbage back to Canada.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo had said the cost of the shipment would be  shouldered by the Philippine government.

If Canada did not accept the trash, Panelo had said it would be left in Canada waters.

Duterte gave the order after Canada missed a May 15 deadline for the recall of the garbage, a miss that prompted Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin to order the recall of Philippine diplomatic envoys in the North American country.
