Duterte fires Pasig rehab executive director, to sack another handling an “economic office”

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte has fired the executive director of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission for alleged corruption.

Apart from Jose Antonio Goitia, Duterte said he would sack another official handling an “economic office” this time due to poor performance.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Goitia’s termination was made “pursuant to the President’s continuing mandate to eradicate graft and corruption, and to ensure that public officials and employees conduct themselves in a manner worthy of public trust.”

He did not elaborate.

Panelo said Goitia was  advised to turn over all official documents, papers and properties in his possession to the Office of the Deputy Executive Director for Finance and Administrative Services of the Commission.

“We hope that this shall serve as another example that this Administration does not — and will never — tolerate corrupt practices in the bureaucracy and in public service,” Panelo said.

Duterte did not give details about who the other official was or when she was going to be sacked.

“Though she is not corrupt, she is not in parity with others in terms of performance,” he said.
