Duterte fires FDA director-general Puno

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte has fired Food and Drug Administration Director General Nela Charade Puno.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo made the announcement, citing a letter from Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to Puno.

“This is in line with the President’s continuing mandate to eradicate graft and corruption and to ensure that public officials and employees conduct themselves in manner worthy of public trust,” the letter said.

The President had said he would issue letters of dismissal to supposedly corrupt government officials.

Puno was appointed as FDA chief in August 2016.

In October 2018, she survived an ambush in Lupi town, Camarines Sur.

She survived but three policemen were killed.
