Duterte corrects previous statement: Two colonels, not generals, still engaged in illegal drug activities

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday, Oct. 5, said two colonels, and not generals, were still engaged in illegal drug activities.

The President made the correction of his earlier statement upon his arrival in Davao from Russia, where he is on official visit.

Days before, Duterte said two generals were “still playing” with illegal drugs.

“Wala, walang generals [involved]. I’m sure of that. Sa aking report na dumating sa akin, wala. Parang– colonel I think,” Duterte said.

Duterte issued the remark amid allegations  Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde  intervened in the cases filed against 13 Pampanga policemen who conducted an irregular raid in 2013.

Albayalde, a general, has admitted calling then-Central Luzon police director Aaron Aquino to ask about the case but only for the sake of the families of the policemen, who were his men when he was Pampanga provincial director.

The President has said he would defer action on the claims pending the results of a Senate probe into the matter.
