(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte is now back in the Philippines after cutting short his Japan trip due to “unbearable pain in his spinal column near the pelvic bone.”

But the President, who had sustained the condition following a motorcycle fall on Oct. 17, went straight to the wake of former Senate President Nene Pimentel in Heritage Park in Taguig on Tuesday night instead.

Pimentel, father of Senator Koko Pimentel, passed away over the weekend, after battling lymphoma and pneumonia.

He was 85 years old.

The President is scheduled to meet his neurologist today,  Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo had said.

The President was supposed to have left Japan, where he attended Emperor Naruhito’s enthronement, on Oct. 24.

In pictures provided by Senator Bong Go, Duterte was seen using a cane to assist him in walking.

The President was replaced by his daughter Sara in the remaining scheduled events in Japan.
