Duterte back in PHL from 4-day Japan working visit

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in the country on Saturday, June 1, after a four-day working visit to Japan.

Duterte’s arrival came hours after Japan Prime Minister Abe Shinzo hosted dinner for him at his residence.

Duterte was accompanied by his Cabinet members and Honeylet Avanceña.

The prime minister, on the other hand, was accompanied by his delegation and his wife, Akie.

The dinner came after the two leaders met in Abe’s office.

Earlier in the day, the President also gave a keynote address  during the “25th International Conference on the Future of Asia” conference in Tokyo, where he pushed for binding guidelines in the South China Sea, and expressed frustration over a lack of a code of conduct.

“We are friends with China. I am the moderator country for China and the ASEAN. And the last thing I heard was that the conduct of the sea is just about two years away. I would not want to impose my own — it would be my last word — but if I get to get a chance to visit Beijing again, I’ll try to talk to President Xi Jinping,” Duterte had said.

This is Duterte’s third visit to Japan as chief executive.

The visit yielded 26 deals worth millions of pesos between the two countries.
