Duterte appoints UNESCO advisory member Prof. Jose David Lapuz as CHED Chairman

QUEZON City, Philippines – President-elect Rodrigo Duterte appointed as chairman of the Commission of Higher Education well-known educator and UNESCO commissioner Prof. Jose David Lapuz.

Lapuz is one of the 45 member-commissioners of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM), on the Committee of Social and Human Sciences and is a member of the UNESCO Advisory Committee on Human Rights and Poverty based in Paris.

He is also a professor at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, teaching international relations and political science.

Lapuz is also an alumnus of the University of the Philippines.  He also took his post-graduate studies in international politics and foreign policy at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.

He previously served as presidential consultant of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2009 and was also a commissioner and board member of the National Historical Institue during the Arroyo administration.

He will be replacing the current head of CHED, Patricia Licuanan.
