Duterte admits hearing ‘rumblings’ from AFP troops on peace talks with CPP

(Eagle News)– President Rodrigo Duterte has admitted that some Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) troops were still uncertain with the peace talks with Communist rebels.

“I’ve heard that there are rumblings because they are natural enemies. There are many who died from the military. But I told them, you know guys, I am your president, I am your commander-in-chief,” Duterte said.
In his visits of military bases, Duterte reiterated to the troops to remain loyal to the flag despite of his administration’s talks with the rebels.
Duterte on Monday had dinner with some of the members of National Democratic Front’s (NDF) peace panel in the Palace.
“Basically, they were saying thank you for releasing their consultants and they also mentioned their willingness to cooperate in the socio economic reforms of the president. They also hope they said that there will be no cancellation of the peace talks,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said regarding the meet.
The resumption of peace talks between the government and the NDF is scheduled from October 6 to 10 in Oslo, Norway.
