DAGUPAN CITY, March 1 (PIA) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has urged the public anew to regularly use the “Timbangan ng Bayan” or public weighing scales installed in wet markets in Pangasinan.

Provincial Director Peter Mangabat of DTI-Pangasinan said his agency had provided Pangasinan’s public markets with two weighing scales each with cages to protect consumers from unfair trade practices.

Mangabat encouraged consumers to use the weighing scales to validate the weight of their purchases and get the value of their hard-earned money.

He said the DTI is monitoring the weighing scales to ensure that the units are functional and properly calibrated.

“Unfortunately, DTI personnel found out that some units were not able to function well due to improper usage,” he said.

Mangabat advised local government units in Pangasinan to visit the nearest office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in their area to ask for the calibration of their test weights and weighing scales.

He also advised retailers to always calibrate their weighing scales to avoid possible sanctions as provided under Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Should there be any complaints with regards to “Timbangan ng Bayan,” consumers can visit the DTI-Pangasinan office at the 2nd Floor of Star Building in Arellano Street here or call (075) 515-3183 or 529-6177. (MCA/AMM/PIA-1, Pangasinan)
