QUEZON CITY, Dec. 22 — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is monitoring a new low pressure area (LPA) found in the eastern portion of Mindanao that may possibly enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow, Friday, December 23.

Aside from the new LPA, the Department is also gearing up for the possible effects of the Northeast Monsoon rains affecting Northern Luzon and the isolated thunderstorms in the whole Luzon area.

Currently, the DSWD Central Office (CO), FOs, and the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) maintains a total of 576,464 FFPs and available Food and Non-Food Items (FNFIs) amounting to ₱556,907,058.20 that can be used to respond to all kinds of disasters that may arise.

There is also a total of P134,257,647.79 standby funds at the CO and FOs, of which P86,997,102.65 is available as Quick Response Fund.

“We are expecting a rainy weekend this coming Christmas Day so I urge our Kababayans to be well prepared. The inclement weather will not dampen the Christmas spirit of the Filipino people. Rest assured that the Department will continue to provide you updates on our response and preparations for the weather disturbance,” assured Social Welfare Sec. Judy Taguiwalo. (DSWD)
