Drilon wants probe into status of Sanchez’s bodyguards also convicted of 1990s crime

(Eagle News)–Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon wants to probe into the status of the bodyguards of ex- Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio who were also convicted in connection with the murder and rape of Aileen Sarmenta and the murder of Allan Gomez in the 1990s.

In an interview over radio dwiz,Drilon said the whereabouts and status of the six bodyguards–Baldwin Brion, Luis and Rogelio Corcolon, George Medialdea, Zoilo Ama and Pepito Kawit–should also be looked into, as he reiterated his call for an inquiry into the eligibility of Sanchez for early release under RA 10592 as earlier reported.

The Palace has already clarified Sanchez was not eligible under the law, which increases the good conduct time allowance given to inmates, as it excludes from coverage those who had been convicted of heinous crimes, among others.

“Hindi lang naman si Sanchez ang involved sa Eileen Sarmenta at [Allan] Gomez [case]. ‘Yung anim na bodyguard, nakawala na ba?” Drilon asked.

Earlier, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Sanchez and over 10,000 other inmates “may” be released following a Supreme Court ruling in June that the law, which was passed in 2013, be applied retroactively.

This means that inmates who were meted out a final judgment prior to the enactment of the law would also be covered by such.

Senate President Tito Sotto has filed a resolution seeking a review of RA 10592.
