Drilon to Senate: Service first, before electoral campaign

(Eagle News) — As the national elections draw near, Senate President Franklin Drilon reminded his fellow senators to prioritize service first before anything else, especially before electoral campaigns as 11 out of 24 members of the senate will for the 2016 elections.

According to Drilon, tons of work need to be done in the Senate such as the 2016 proposed national budget and the controversial Bangsamoro Basic Law. The Senate President reiterated that the House has its responsibilities and as elected officials these obligations should not be ignored or neglected because of their candidacy.

“We should continue to work until the last day. That is the best campaign that we can show,” Drilon reminded his fellow senators.

Five among the 11 senators will run for vice-president namely Senator Gringo Honasan (already filed his Certificate of Candidacy), Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Alan Peter Cayetano, Antonio Trillanes, and Francis Escudero.

Meanwhile, Senator Miriam Santiago is rumored to be running for the presidential race together with first-time senator Grace Poe.  The other senate re-electionists are Drilon, Ralph Recto, Serge Osmena and TG Guingona.

The Senate quorum last Saturday was obviously affected by the absences of election candidates who skipped the session for their campaign activities.
