DOTr chief Bautista says Jay Art Tugade appointed new LTO head

(Eagle News) — Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista on Monday, Nov. 15, said Jose Arturo Maddela Tugade, son of former Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, has been appointed chief of the Land Transportation Office.

The younger Tugade had earlier been named acting general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority.

He will be replacing  Teofilo Guadiz III at the helm of LTO, who will take on the position of Assistant Secretary for the DOTr’s Road Sector instead.

According to Bautista, the younger Tugade is the “best suited for the very challenging job in the LTO.”

He said they both came to the conclusion after they both discussed how they could better serve the Department of Transportation.

“With his experience in management and litigation, I believe that he will make a difference in the LTO with the many problems and controversies being faced by the agency,” Bautista said.

Bautista said they “immediately asked the indulgence of the President (Bongbong Marcos) and explained the gravity of the situation in the LTO and the importance of the work that has to be done as well as the willingness of Atty J Art to do it.”

“In the end, the President understood the situation,” he added.
