DOJ willing to give Jaybee Sebastian immunity

(Eagle News)– Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Monday (September 26) said he will consider enrolling convicted kidnapper Jaybee Sebastian to the Witness Protection Program (WPP) if he would testify on the proliferation of illegal drugs in the national penitentiary which involves some government officials including Senator Leila de Lima.

“Ang possibility na siya ay umamin baka yun ang medyo malabo, but with respect to immunity nasa kanya yun. Kung aamin and if he’s ready to execute an affidavit para mapaloob natin sa Witness Protection Program, then nasa kanya lang ‘yun. Pag ginawa niya ‘yun, we will consider it,” Aguirre said.
The Cabinet official had earlier disclosed that Sebastian will likely not implicate De Lima in the narcotics trade.
“He will testify for De Lima because he did not execute a sworn statement against her. He will be protecting his own skin,” Aguirre said.
According to Aguirre, Sebastian would surely face charges if he refuse to cooperate in the inquiry, emphasizing his role in the Bilibid drug operations.
Sebastian has yet to announce his presence to appear before the House justice committee on October 5.
