DOJ: Two other convicts in Chiong rape-slay surrender

(Eagle News)–Two other convicts in the Chiong rape-slay and whom the Department of Justice described as having been prematurely released have surrendered to authorities.

Justice spokesperson Markk Perete said Josman Aznar and James Anthony Uy turned themselves in at the New Bilibid Prison around 6:30 p.m.

Earlier, fellow convicts Ariel Balansag and Alberto Caño also returned to BuCor custody.

Their co-accused are Rowen Adlawan,  Paco Larrañaga, and James Andrew Uy, but Larrañaga, of Spanish descent, is serving his sentence in Spain.

The BuCor has said 1914 convicts of heinous crimes, including Aznar and the others, have been released under the Good Conduct Time Allowance law, whose implementing rules and regulations have been revised following the controversy.

President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the convicts to surrender in 15 days or be treated as fugitives.

The deadline is set to lapse on Sept. 19.
