(Eagle News)–The Department of Justice has cleared Trece Martires, Cavite Mayor Melandres De Sagun of the murder of Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan.

Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said the complaints for murder against Luis Abad Jr. and Ronel Bersamina were also dismissed.

Instead, indicted for two counts of murder were Ariel Paiton, the alleged gunman,  and councilor Lawrence Arca, who allegedly sold the getaway vehicle of the gunman.

A copy of the resolution has yet to be made available to the media.

Lubigan and his driver Romulo Guillemer were killed in Barangay Luciano on July 7 last year.

Authorities had said Lubigan’s killing could have been politically motivated as it came after he announced plans to run for mayor in the 2019 polls.
