DOJ: Convicts freed on account of GCTA law can surrender without sanctions up to 11:59 p.m. today

(Eagle News)–Persons deprived of liberty who were released under the Good Conduct Time Allowance law can surrender without any sanctions up to 11:59 p.m. today, Sept. 19.

Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said after 11:59 p.m., those who did not surrender will be re-arrested.

“This day, we will be transmitting a new list to the (Department of the Interior and Local Government)  which will serve as their guide in implementing the rearrest of those who didnt surrender upon the lapse of 15-day period which will expire 11:59 tonight,” Perete said.

He said the list will contain several details on the PDL, including the offense, last known address and their picture to “minimize mistaken identity in the course of the arrest.”

“The name of the surrenderers will not be included in the updated list,” Perete said.

As of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1025 convicts released under the GCTA law have surrendered.

President Rodrigo Duterte gave the convicts 15 days to surrender or be treated as fugitives.
