DOH launches online injury reporting system

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Dec. 20 (PIA) – – The Department of Health (DOH) recently launched the Online National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (ONEISS) to orchestrate real time reporting of firecracker-related incidents during the Yuletide and New Year’s celebrations.

Dr. Romulo Turingan, chief of the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit, said the system aims to fastrack the generation of reports on firecracker-related injuries nationwide.

He said hospitals are required to register all the firecracker-related injuries including cases of firecracker ingestion and stray bullets in the system which can be accessed via the DOH website.

“This is the easiest way for us to consolidate immediately all the firecracker-related cases reported by the different hospitals nationwide.

With the system’s generated data, we could also easily determine the trend of the injuries caused by firecrackers and stray bullets for this year,” Turingan said.   Carissa Pagulayan, ONEISS coordinator, said they are still studying the process on how they will include into the system those cases that will be reported by the Rural Health Units (RHUs).

Pagulayan said if there are no other means to include the RHU reports in the system, the DOH will adopt a mechanism to incorporate these firecracker-related injuries in the data generated by the online reporting system. (ALM/OTB/PIA-2 Cagayan)
