UPDATED: DOH doctor, varsity player, events organizer among those nabbed in PDEA buy-bust op in Mandaluyong condo

(Eagle News) — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested a Department of Health doctor in a buy-bust operation in Mandaluyong on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Apart from Dr. Vanjoe de Guzman, medical officer IV at the DOH National Capital Region office, also arrested in the midnight operation in his own unit in California Garden Condominium in Barangay Highway Hills were Keanu Andrea Flores, a varsity lawn tennis player at Colegio de San Juan de Letran; and Francis Gerald Fajardo, an events organizer who frequently coordinates with PDEA to ensure security during the events.

Also arrested were Michael Melegrito Tan, Mohammad Arafa Morsy alias Rafa, Mohammad Abdullah Duga alias Shenin, and Mark Adrianne Echau.

According to PDEA, based on their two-month surveillance, De Guzman allowed his own unit to be used as a drug den by the group.

Authorities said instead of sniffing the  methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, members of the group allow the illegal drugs to be injected in liquid form into their system to ensure stronger effects.

PDEA said it was De Guzman himself who did the injections.

PDEA said the group would also hold orgies after the illegal drugs session, based on videos of the same from a cellphone retrieved from the unit.

Recovered from the unit were 50 grams of suspected shabu worth P340,000, 200 milliliters of liquid ecstasy worth P30,000 and other drug paraphernalia.

Members of the group are facing drug-related charges.
