DOE issues energy safety tips during calamities

TAGUIG CITY — In the aftermath of the recent earthquake in Surigao and nearby environs as well as the typhoons that regularly hit the Philippines, the Department of Energy (DOE) has come up with suggested power tips to ensure the safety of all the people, households and facilities.
These tips include what needs to be done during calamities. DOE said that for households and buildings, the main switch or the circuit breaker must be switched off.

There is also a need to unplug electrical appliances and devices, the DOE added.

Moreover, it is important to install brackets or safety harness for appliances and furniture like cabinets.

For power plants especially control rooms, it is very necessary to install brackets for control panels, monitors, CPUs, servers and keyboards

This practice helps to ensure that control rooms remain intact even during an earthquake and ready to resume operation soonest. (DOE).
