(Eagle News)– The Department of the Interior and Local Government wants the 1700 convicts released under the Good Conduct Time Allowance to be placed on the Immigration watchlist.
Interior Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said the DILG will request the Department of Justice for this.
He said Interior Secretary Eduardo Año has also ordered the Philippine National Police to form tracker teams to locate the convicts.
Año, Malaya said, has urged the convicts to surrender themselves immediately to the nearest police station to avoid any problems.
Malaya said the DILG was coordinating with the Bureau of Corrections for the list of those covered by the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The PNP has said should the convicts fail to surrender in 15 days, they would be treated as fugitives and could be arrested without a warrant.
