DILG to local chief executives: Oversee disaster-response measures personally

(Eagle News)–Personally supervise disaster-response measures.

This was the reminder issued by the  Department of the Interior and Local Government to local executives, with “Tisoy” expected to make landfall soon.

In a statement, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said local chief executives must have convened their respective councils by now.

He said governors, mayors, and barangay chiefs are expected to be in the incident command center to monitor.

“As the safety of our people is of paramount importance, local executives in coordination with local police and fire/emergency response authorities should, therefore, carry out preemptive or forced evacuation in areas with very high susceptibility to storm surge, flood and landslide, if necessary,” he said.

He said local chief executives should be vigilant about sea levels and the level of river waters and settlements in low-lying areas or near riverbanks, and should restrict tourist activities.

The local chief executives should also ensure that communication lines are working properly, he said.
