DILG: Less fortunate families are gov’t priority

Those with comfortable lives should no longer wait for gov’t assistance, DILG adds

(Eagle News) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government on Wednesday, March 25, said government was prioritizing the less fortunate families in the distribution of basic goods.

In a press briefing, Interior Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said as a result, those who live a comfortable life should no longer wait for government assistance.

“Let me just emphasize ‘yung iba po na mga maganda naman ang buhay huwag na po tayong mag-antay ng tulong sa gobyerno kasi po maganda naman ang buhay niyo,” Malaya said.

Malaya in particular, cited some government employees who he said sometimes  were the first in receiving government assistance.

He noted government employees were paid during the enhanced community quarantine.

As for those living in subidivisions, “nakatira naman tayo sa subdivision bakit pa po tayo hihingi ng tulong mula sa gobyerno? ”

“Hindi po tayo mayamang bansa, limitado lang po ang pondo ng ating pamahalaan,” he said.

“Ang inuuna po ng gobyerno ‘yung mga isang kayod, isang tuka… ‘yung mga arawan na hindi makapag-trabaho, ‘yung mga nasa TODA, ‘yung mga nagtratrabaho sa palengke na hindi makapasok, ‘yun po ang inuuna namin,” he added.

President Rodrigo Duterte has imposed an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon to arrest the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.

Under the enhanced community quarantine, public transportation is suspended.

Only frontliners including health workers and essential government personnel, and those buying basic necessities, are allowed to go out.
