DILG files raps vs Aklan governor, Malay officials over Boracay mess

(Eagle News) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government on Wednesday, June 27, filed charges against 17 Aklan and Malay officials for what President Rodrigo Duterte said was the deterioration of the once-pristine Boracay Island.

Facing administrative and charges for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act before the Ombudsman were Aklan Gov. Florencio Miraflores, Malay Mayor Ciceron Cawaling, Vice Mayor Abram Sualog, several municipal council members of Malay, among others.

The charges were filed while Boracay was undergoing a 6-month rehabilitation, at the behest of President Duterte.

It was Duterte who described the world-renowned island as a “cesspool,” with its unregulated activities.
