DILG: 301 barangay officials facing criminal raps over irregularities in cash aid distribution

(Eagle News)–A total of 301 barangay officials are now facing criminal charges over cash aid anomalies, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said on Wednesday, June 3.

According to Interior Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya, law enforcers are conducting a case build-up for 76 more barangay officials.

He said those facing complaints for  violations of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices, RA 11469 known as the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, and RA 11332 or Law on Reporting of Communicable Diseases  are mostly
barangay chairpersons and kagawads.

There are also, however, barangay secretaries, health workers, treasurers, an SK chairman, and officials and employees of localities.

So far, he said the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group has received 381 complaints on supposed corruption involving barangay officials.
