DFA welcomes release of three Filipino engineers taken hostage in Libya

(Eagle News)–The Department of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the release of three Filipino engineers who were taken hostage in Libya last year.

In a statement, the DFA said the three Filipinos, who were not identified, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on  Saturday morning on board flight PR 0659.

They were accompanied by Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Hjayceelyn M. Quintana.

The DFA, through the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs, shouldered the airline tickets to Manila and granted them cash assistance.

“We are glad that we are able to bring them home alive and safe to their families,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin said.

“These Filipinos coming home to their families are living proof that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will never leave a Filipino in danger behind,” he added.

The DFA said the three and their South Korean colleague had been taken by armed men from the project site of the Great Man-Made River Project in southern Libya.
