(Eagle News)–The Department of Foreign Affairs has urged Filipinos in Hong Kong to exercise extreme caution as massive demonstrations take place there.

“The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong released an advisory, asking Filipinos there to keep away from demonstration areas which are generally concentrated outside the government central offices, particularly the Legislative Complex, in Admiralty and in Tamar Park,” the DFA said.

According to the DFA, “unless their need is absolutely immediate, they should consider rescheduling their consular transactions at the Consulate General which is located very near the demonstration areas..”

The DFA also urged  the Filipino community to be “updated with the security situation in Hong Kong as of this time through media reports.”

Philippine authorities said they would continue to monitor the situation and were ready to provide assistance.
