DFA: Hundreds of Filipinos participating in Phase III trials of potential COVID-19 vaccine in UAE

(Eagle News)–Hundreds of Filipinos are participating in Phase III trials of a potential COVID-19 vaccine in the United Arab Emirates, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

According to the DFA, the trials of the potential vaccine being developed by Chinese company Sinopharm are held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

Over 15,000 of various nationalities were administered the potential vaccine since July 16.

Ambassador to the UAE Hjayceelyn M. Quintana commended the Filipinos, noting their contribution to humanity’s welfare.

“There is a core Filipino value called ‘pakikipagkapwa’ which can be roughly described as ‘one’s care for his or her fellow human being.’ The dedication given by Filipinos involved in the vaccine trial springs forth from this Filipino value,” she said.

The DFA said the ADNEC trial site is currently the biggest of its kind in the world.

The UAE is among the first countries undertaking a Phase III Trial for a potential COVID-19 vaccine, the DFA said.
