(Eagle News)–The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday, March 1, said it was exhausting all “diplomatic avenues and legal remedies” to save a Filipina who was sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia.
The DFA issued the statement after the Saudi Court of Appeals affirmed the sentence of the Filipina on Thursday, Feb. 28, for killing her employer in Makkah three years ago.
The Filipina, who was a minor when she was deployed to Saudia Arabia in 2016, said she killed her employer in self-defense.
According to Consul General Edgar Badajos, the Consulate has been assisting the Filipina since the start of her trial.
He said she has been given a lawyer and a representative to attend hearings.
He said her case has also been referred to the Department of Justice, chair of the Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking, for the filing of appropriate charges against her recruiters.
