(Eagle News)—The Department of Foreign Affairs is still checking whether Filipinos were among those killed or injured in the shooting in Utrecht, Netherlands.

In a statement, the DFA said the Philippine Embassy in The Hague was currently coordinating with the Dutch police and the Dutch Foreign Ministry on developments.

Ambassador Jaime Victor Ledda also told the DFA  the embassy was contacting Filipino community members in Utrecht and advising them to take the necessary precautions.

“The Philippines is greatly saddened that such an incident has occured in a peaceful country such as the Netherlands. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dutch people and government during this difficult time,” the DFA said.

Dutch authorities arrested Gokmen Tanis, 37, who they said opened fire on a tram on Monday, March 18, leaving at least three dead and several injured.

Dutch authorities said they were still investigating a likely terrorist motive for the attack which came after another in New Zealand that left at least 50 injured, but said they “cannot exclude” other motives, including a family dispute. With a report from  Agence France Presse
