Death toll due to “Ompong” rises to 29

(Eagle News)–The death toll due to Typhoon “Ompong” has risen to 29.

Of the figure, Presidential Political Adviser Francis Tolentino said 24 came from the Cordillera Administrative Region.

“Areas po ng Itogon, Benguet and Mountain Province and parts of Baguio…Karamihan po dito because of landslides, soil saturation, rainfall..,” he said during a press conference.

President Rodrigo Duterte, for his part, expressed condolences to the kin of those who died.

“I share the grief of the loved ones,” he said.

Earlier, authorities said 25 had died with the onslaught of “Ompong,” which brought heavy rains and flooding mostly in the northern part of Luzon.

“Ompong”  left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday night.
