De Lima: Threat to impeach Robredo another diversionary tactic

(Eagle News)–For Senator Leila de Lima, calls for Vice President Leni Robredo’s impeachment for her support of a United Nations Human Rights Council probe of the drug war in the country were merely a diversionary tactic.

“Calling for the impeachment of the Vice President is also a diversion from the real accountability that President (Rodrigo) Duterte has to answer,” she said in a statement.

According to De Lima, “nakahanap na naman ang administrasyon ng isa pang mouthpiece para pagtakpan ang patong-patong na kasalanan nila sa bayan.”

De Lima was referring to  Presidential Anti-Corruption Commissioner Manuelito Luna, who was behind the calls.

She said Luna also only wanted to  earn “brownie points” from Duterte.

“Because the world has spoken once more, the Duterte regime is once again scrambling for a scapegoat for its lack of commitment to uphold human rights. VP Leni is on the receiving end of this dirty trick,” she said.

“Ang tunay na nagtaksil sa kanyang mandato na protektahan ang mamamayang Pilipino ay si Rodrigo Duterte at ang kanyang administrasyon,” she added.

The UNHRC narrowly passed an Iceland-initiated resolution that sought for a probe into the drug war.

President Duterte has slammed Iceland for intervening in domestic affairs, saying the Nordic country has no drug problems of its own.

Iceland, for its part, expressed hope the Philippines would cooperate in the UN probe.
